POSITION DESCRIPTION The Preschool Teacher will facilitate the implementation of the Ready, Set, Go! program at the Bowness Boys & Girls Club. The program will be play-based and flexible, designed to meet the wide range of developmental needs of participating children. In addition to offering a play based program, the Teacher will encourage and support parents in their attempts to provide a variety of learning experiences at home. Particular attention will be given to early literacy issues in this program, with consideration of and sensitivity to the literacy levels of parents/caregivers. Also, a primary focus will be on assisting children and parents in their awareness and understanding of emotional literacy. A strong focus of the program is facilitating awareness and understanding of emotional literacy for parents and children and support the children to be ready for their transition to kindergarten. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Setting up and planning for a play based program offering a variety of developmentally appropriate activities for preschoolers Promoting the program in the community prior to September start-up Developing plans to meet the specific needs of individual children when necessary Identifying developmental delays and making recommendations for screening Collaborating with a therapy team (program partnership) who works directly in the classroom Implementing early literacy activities including parents whenever possible Modeling constructive behavior management techniques and positive parenting strategies Modeling good communication skills and healthy problem solving strategies Involving parents in the various aspects of the program as volunteers Suggesting developmentally appropriate activities for parent and child to engage in at home Participating in and promoting Boys and Girls Club events when appropriate Understanding and implementing Alberta Child Care Licensing Regulations and BGCC Policies Working in partnership with other agencies whenever necessary Keeping comprehensive records and completing monthly program update QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor or Education or Early Childhood Diploma A minimum two years experience working with families and 2-4 years of supervisory experience Certification as a Child Development Supervisor Strong interpersonal, communication and public relations skills Must have strong planning, organizing, problem-solving and leadership skills Must be able to work independently and effectively in a team environment Current Standard First Aid/Basic Rescue CPR certificate A Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Child Intervention Record Check Please Note: Successful candidates will complete criminal record check and child intervention record check at the time of new hire paperwork.
